Beginning

I'm not sure if this is the right way to start or not, but I thought maybe it would be best if we just said a little bit about who we are before we started really discussing ideas and thoughts about Christian spirituality (a Donald Miller term, not my own). I'd also like to let you guys know a little more about my plan.

I'd like to post a discussion topic once or twice a week, and I plan to publish the posts on a Monday or Thursday night. That way you guys have an idea about when to check to see if there's something you think is worth discussing or not. I'd also like to open up the posts to anyone, so if you have something that's been on your mind or something you'd like to bring up to talk about, just email me, and I'll put it up for future discussion. I'll post our first real discussion topic this Thursday, and I look forward to getting your input regarding that topic. As James MacDonald would say, "do I know how to keep you guys tuning in, or what? LOL." I know, it's a horrible line, but for those of you who have read his blog, you might appreciate the reference.

So if you'd be so kind, let us know a little about who you are. Like what you do, where you are, why your name is Dave J. and you log into the comments as Andrew Birchwood. Just some simple facts will suffice.

I am Tim. I live in Elgin and teach gifted sixth grade. I am in no way gifted , just lucky. I love this format. It is different and could be good. All of us need to take a chance and give it a try.

I'm Matt. I go to school for jazz saxophone and I don't know what I'm going to do when I get out. In the meantime, this seems like a good idea.

My name is Jim. I also am a teacher and I'm preparing to enter the olympics (jimnastics).

Sorry, didn't mean to post that. I am looking forward to discussing real things that make a difference. Thanks for starting this Ben.

I think we'd all like to see the Reedspeed in action on the big stage at the Olympics. I certainly think watching you beat the elite runner from Lithuania would be a real thing that makes a difference. Your daughter would be so proud.

I'm Kristin and I'm the first female to post on this site. Hope that's ok. I'm Ben's younger sister. I live in Indiana and go to a small church out here. I enjoy it, but I also miss the discussion generated in the small house church we had in China. I guess we don't get to discuss struggles or questions as much here, even in our small group. Sometimes it's just nice to know that I'm not the only one who doesn't get it all.

Kristin, thanks for being the first female to post. May you be the inspiration for many others to follow. Including Robbie, who may well receive the female moniker if he doesn't show his face around here soon. Is that offensive?

Hey, I'm Robbie, the guy who Ben was threatening with the female moniker. I also happen to be engaged to his sister, Kristin. I work in Admissions at Bethel College in Indiana. Down the road I'll probably be known as the guy who beats Ben in H-O-R-S-E all the time.
